Arrowhead Resort is a small, family owned and operated cabin and RV resort on Lake Whitney, Texas. We work very hard at maintaining a comfortable, quiet retreat for our guests. We are open year-round, offering easy access to the lake, either on foot or in your vehicle. The cabins and RV sites are situated in the center of 22 acres, providing an "off the beaten path" feel. Some cabins are individual units, while others are duplexes. All cabins are in close proximity to one another, making it easy to plan group gatherings, while maintaining each family's privacy. Our steakhouse, which attracts people from across the state, is open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where are you located?
Lake Whitney is located approximately 65 miles south of the DFW Metroplex, 18 miles west of Hillsboro. Arrowhead Resort is situated on the southeast corner of the lake about two miles northeast of the dam. We are between the town of Whitney and the dam about one mile off Highway 22.

What is there to do there?
Here at the resort we offer swimming, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, and shuffleboard. We also have guided trail rides and pony rides. The resort is home to free roaming peacocks that are always entertaining. Bicycles are welcome on resort roads, trails, and along the shore, but nothing motorized, please. We rent pontoon boats and Jetskis, plus equipment like skis and tubes to pull behind your boat. We rent movies in the office, and offer a nature guide who can take you birding, wildlife watching, or rock collecting. In the surrounding area you can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. There are 3 golf courses in the area, as well as antique shopping in several nearby towns. But keep in mind that this is still an undeveloped rural lake. The nearest bowling alley, roller rink, or movie theater is in Waco, 35 miles away. The main attraction is the lake itself. Let yourself be mesmerized by Lake Whitney and our incredible sunsets for the best entertainment you've had in years. Activity page

How far are you from the President's ranch at Crawford?
It's about a 35 mile drive to Crawford, where you can buy souvenirs and eat a hamburger at the now famous Coffee Station where Mr. Bush likes to eat. Since there are no hotels in Crawford, Lake Whitney is an ideal spot to stay. From here you can enjoy a day trip to Crawford and Waco, then return to your cozy cabin to enjoy the peace and quiet of the lake.

Are your cabins on the water?
Our cabins are as close to the water as you will find anywhere on the lake (about 150 yards). Most of our cabins have beautiful views of the main body of the lake. Because Lake Whitney is a flood control lake, nothing sits at the edge of the water anywhere on the lake. We are on the non-cliff side of the lake so access to the water is a simple walk from your cabin through open horse pasture.

How clean do you expect us to leave the cabin? Should we bring cleaning supplies? The term "housekeeping cabin" means that we don't provide daily maid service during your stay and we expect our guests to pick up after themselves. We clean the cabins thoroughly between guests. You don't have to bring cleaning supplies, but please ask to borrow some if someone in your party has been exceptionally messy. We ask for general courtesy in regards to the mess you leave behind. We don't expect to have to pick up litter from around the outside of your cabin, we don't expect to find two days' worth of leftover barbeque in the fridge, and we don't expect to have to scrape your child's candy off the kitchen floor. We are a small family run business, not a mega corporation with unlimited resources. Because of that we must pass along extra cleaning fees to messy customers. We charge $20 per hour for cleaning above and beyond what is considered normal. See our cleaning checklist.

Is this a luxury resort?
The resort was built in the mid-fifties as a fishing lodge. All of the cabins have been completely remodeled in recent years to make them more modern. Our cabins feature some amenities you might find in a luxury resort such as wireless Internet service, DVD players, and plush towels, but the emphasis is on comfort and relaxation. Landscaping is left natural wherever possible, so you can enjoy nature, which is the greatest asset found at the resort. This is not the Hilton; we don't want it to be. What we aim for is a clean, pleasant place from which you can enjoy the quiet  beauty of the lake. Our Deluxe Single Cabins are our most upscale rooms. They are similar to what you would expect to find at a bed & breakfast, but with the added bonus of a lake view. Cabin descriptions

What linens do you supply?  We provides bed linens( sheets, pillows, blankets), bath towels, washcloths, hand towels, and a dish cloth.  Extras are available on request. The bunks in the Treehouses have fleece sleeping bags rather than sheets. If you'd prefer sheets please ask.

Do you supply shampoo and soap? We supply two bars of our custom made glycerin soap in each cabin and a small courtesy bottle of shampoo.

Do you supply dishes and utensils?  No. Most people get by with paper plates and a few cooking utensils. If you get here and need something please don't hesitate to ask for a loaner.

Can we bring an air mattress and have extra people? We have maximum occupancies for all of our cabins and don't allow extra people. The maximums are based on many things: bedding, parking, air conditioning limitations, pool capacity, and health department rules about septic capacity, but our main objective is the comfort of our guests. Please trust us and abide by the maximums.

What is the maximum capacity of your resort? Do you rent out the entire property for one price?
We currently offer sleeping capacity for 44 adults and up to 30 children under age 12. (In most cases children over age 12 count as adults. Five overnight RV sites are also available with a maximum occupancy of 2 adults and 2 children. We do not offer a single price for rental of the property.

Do you have a boat dock and launch?
The fact that Lake Whitney is a flood control lake means that docks are only practical near the cliffs so that the dock can pivot up and down with the water level. We're not on cliffs. The shore in front of the cabins is a sand and mud combination that is ideal for beaching most boats. Small to mid-sized boats can be launched from the gravel launch here, or you can launch at the dam which is just 2 miles away. There's plenty of parking near the cabins to pull your boat in and out of the water at night.

Do you have a map of the resort's layout?
Yes, click here.

Can I rent a cabin for my teens to stay in alone?
Not unless a responsible adult over age 21 will be onsite.

How far in advance can I make reservations at Arrowhead Resort?
One year.

Do you have a swim beach?
There is no designated swim beach, but our shore is quite suitable for swimming.

Is there a place to fish?
From the resort, you'll have easy access to the shore, or rent one of our pontoon boats to get out on the water.

How far in advance should we make a reservation?
We take reservations up to one year in advance. If you plan to come during June or July or on holiday weekends, you should plan several months in advance. Cabins for the Fourth of July often require six months or more to get anything other than a single cabin for 2 people. In general the more people you plan to bring, the more lead time you will need to ensure availability. A good rule of thumb is to allow 1 week for every person you need to accommodate during the peak months of May, June, July, August, or September. The other seven months of the year are much easier, and you can often secure a cabin with a few days notice.

Are campfires allowed?
Small fires in the raised BBQ grills are allowed at the cabins, but no ground fires are allowed on resort property. Hill County frequently bans all burning during the summer months.

Is there a grocery store nearby?
The town of Whitney has two full-service stores, only a few miles from the resort.

Do you sell bait and fishing licenses? No, but there are several places nearby that do.

Do the cabins have coffee pots?
All cabins except the Mini-motel rooms have coffee makers and coffee mugs.

Do you make exceptions to your no pet rule?
Only RV guests are allowed to bring pets. We don't allow any pets in or near the cabins, even small ones in carriers. We charge $200 if we find evidence of a pet in the cabins.

Can we have friends that aren't staying at Arrowhead come over for a party?
NO. Simply put, this is not that kind of place. Arrowhead Resort strives very hard to be the quiet place on the lake. Our cabin and RV space occupancies are strictly enforced, and outside visitors are strongly discouraged. In fact they aren't allowed on holiday or motorcross weekends. Other weekends, we charge $10 per person per day for outside visitors, with a limit of 2 per cabin.

Are there restaurants nearby?
Our own restaurant, Mel's Steakhouse, is open for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. See our menu. There are several places to get breakfast and lunch most days of the week within 5 miles, but keep in mind that this is a rural area.

When is check in and check out?
Check in is 3 p.m.; check out is 12 p.m. If you need to arrive later than 10:00 p.m. please let us know, so that we can plan accordingly. When available, we offer an early check-in from noon to 3 p.m. for an additional $25. Late check-out rates are $25 between noon and 3 p.m. and half the room rate for 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Late check-out cannot be guaranteed in advance, as it is subject to availability.

Do the cabins have cable TV?
All rooms have remote color TV's, but there is no cable available in the area. All cabins except the Mini-motel rooms have VCR's and DVD players. We rent movies in the office.

Will my cell phone work?  Most providers have service in the AREA, but a few may not have digital service on the resort property. Call your provider for more information.

Are there phones in the rooms?
No. There is a payphone on site and guests are allowed to give out the office number for messages. We also have a computer in the office dedicated to guests for checking their email. Free wireless Internet service is available throughout the property. If you have a laptop without wireless capability we rent a wireless card for $5.00 per day.

What if I have to cancel my reservation?
Our cancellation policy is as follows:
Single cabins, Treehouses, Birds Nests, and RV sites have a 1 week cancellation period. All large cabins have a 2 week cancellation period. If cancellation is made inside the specified periods full charges incur. Groups, reunions, and all-inclusive packages have 60 day cancellation periods and require a one night's non-refundable deposit. Multiple cabin cancellations will incur a $25 per cabin fee. Additionally, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, and the Spring National motocross week in March require a one night non-refundable deposit at the time of the reservation. This is in addition to the above stated time periods.

What if the weather is bad?
We offer free movie rentals if it is raining during your stay; all you have to do is ask. Regular cancellation policies apply to cabin rentals.

What is the boat rental cancellation policy?
If the weather is DANGEROUS we will cancel or delay your reservation with no penalty to you. If the weather is simply UNCOMFORTABLE, you are still responsible for your rental. If the weather is expected to improve (and does), we will simply delay until it becomes safe and you will still be responsible for the remainder of your time slot. Uncomfortable, but safe, weather consists of cool temperatures, light rain with no lightening, and breezy without wind warnings.  Weather delays are handled in two ways-- if possible we will still offer you your full rental time period. If other rentals are scheduled to follow your time frame, we will shorten your rental and prorate the amount.

Can my kids set up a tent and sleep outside?
Because we do not have a separate bathroom and shower facility for campers, the Texas Health Department prohibits tent campers. That restriction applies even to cabin guests.
